The hybrid system uses 2 electric motors MG1 and MG2 (motor/generator). Both are powered by the hybrid battery pack and MG1 is used to start the engine. This means that this car doesn’t need a starter or an alternator as MG1 replaces both.

That power is supplied to the front wheels through the efficient electronic continually variable transmission.

2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid MPG

2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is a front-wheel-drive hybrid variant of the Corolla. Which gives 53 mpg in the city and 52 mpg on the highway. On the other hand, Corolla 1.8L non-hybrid will give you only 31mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway.

Similarly, the Toyota Corolla 2.0L non-hybrid will give you only 31 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. Therefore there is a huge difference in fuel efficiency performance between hybrid and non-hybrid variants of Toyota.

People buy hybrid cars not for power but for fuel efficiency, therefore the performance of any hybrid vehicle means its mpg on the road.

Cargo Space of the Vehicle

The primary focus of any hybrid vehicle is its fuel efficiency but you can not make it practical without cargo space. Therefore 2021 Toyota Corolla hybrid offers 13.1cubic feet of cargo space for your daily use. You can accumulate six carries on suitcases in the boot of the car.

However, if you need more cargo area sometimes, then you have the option to fold the rear seats down by 60/40 to enlarge your cargo area.

2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid versus Prius

When it comes to the design, the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid has an edge over Prius. The design of the Toyota Corolla Hybrid is more conventional and is very much similar to the regular Corolla. It shares a lot of exterior features with a regular Toyota Corolla.

But if fuel economy is the priority, then Prius is a more fuel-efficient hybrid on the road. Corolla hybrid is slightly behind the Prius in fuel efficiency and obviously will save your money at the pump.

When it comes to the Price, Corolla Hybrid has again an advantage over Prius. The starting price of the Corolla Hybrid is $23,400 while the starting price of the Prius is $24,500.

Cargo space in the Prius is much more than in the Corolla Hybrid. Cargo space in the Prius is 27.4 cubic feet while the cargo space in Corolla Hybrid is 11.4 cubic feet. This obviously, gives an advantage to Prius over the Corolla hybrid.

I bought a 2021Corolla hybrid about 3 weeks ago and LOVE the car. It has decent acceleration for a hybrid, is pretty comfortable, and best of all, I’m averaging 63.7 mpg! I’m a mobile dog trainer and do a lot of driving. Well worth the money.

I’m hoping that Toyota will make a Corolla Hybrid SE or XSE trim. It will look better just like what they have on a Camry Hybrid.  The wheels on this Corolla are a big turn-off for me but overall it looks great.
